The one big problem I have with the Girard's derby is the Mad Dog Award. I think the judging is a little screwy. This year with the compacts it was hard to compete with them because they are lighter and had 5 cars, anyone can get a good track shot with 5 cars and one stuck on the bank. My opinion they should've given $100 or so to the compact mad dog and $500 for the fullsize cars. Nothing against the compacts they are a blast to watch but we have more money and time into our cars. In my opinion the judging for the mad dog should change and judged on hard and ballsy driving not a one hit wonder that happens to be big. When therest of the time the person putted around and love tapped. For instance last year went #81 won the mad dog he definitely deserved it he drove hard the entire time. Once again I have nothing against the driver of the compact who won the mad dog or compacts for that matter, I just want to see it judged different. Or for that matter split the Mad Dog Money so that both classes get a chunk of change and not just one class gets all the money. Don't want to start any crap between me and the drivers or the officials, I thought Girard was put on very well and the officials did great throughout. This was just my 2 cents about the mad dog award.

We put just as much time and money in our compacts, moser rearends, hopped up 2.3's with DEC headers, sliders, steel bells with tranny protectors, DP's, heavy cages and the compacts actually drive their cars and don't bag the whole time like full size. I'm glad to hear the Mad Dog award went to the class that puts on the show start to finish, not just the end of the feature.
