DEMOLITION DERBY RULES AND REGULATIONS
Compact Car Class - Compact cars can be 4 or 6 cylinders as long as wheel base does
not exceed 104 inches. Electric fuel pump is allowed with a switch visibly marked and
easy to shut off. Compact cars must abide by all other regular car derby rules and
regulations listed below.
A1l factory passenger cars may be entered as long as the vehicle is not classified as a
pickup or jeep. Also, no convertibles, carryalls, IMPERIALS, or 4-wheel drives. Locked
rear ends are allowed.
Twenty-five dollars ($25) enters one car and driver, payable immediately upon entering
the fairgrounds and before inspection. Vehicle must be unloaded immediately for
inspection, to help in speeding the process along. The number of vehicles allowed in the
gate per entry, is the vehicle delivering the derby car and one support vehicle. Entry fee is
NON refundable. Only the driver is allowed in the pit area. Additional pit passes may be
obtained at fifteen dollars ($ 15) each. All drivers and pit members must sign a "Waiver
and release of Liability" form before entering the pit area. All drivers and pit members
participating, must be at least sixteen (16) years of age and show a valid drivers license.
Any person under eighteen (18) years of age, must have a form signed by a parent of legal
guardian. Only the driver and one person from the pit crew of the car being
inspected will be allowed in the inspection area.
Upon passing inspection, the vehicle will be placed and secured in a heat lane in the pit
area. No work will take place on the vehicle after being placed in a heat lane. If violation
of this rule occurs, the vehicle will be disqualified from competition. Additional
inspections concerning all rules and regulations may be performed prior to each heat.
Any violations found during preheat inspections will result in disqualihcation.
Since this derby is being held in a rodeo arena, all glass, side chrome stripping, name
plates, door handles, pot metal, plastic, small grill pieces, or any other pieces that might
break and fall off, must be removed before entering the fairgrounds. DO NOT BREAK
GLASS OUT WITH A HAMMER! IT MUST BE CLEANLY REMOVED. This rule
will be strictly enforced so that we will be able to have future events in this arena.
All interior of the vehicle, except the driver's seat, must be removed, including the head
liner, door panels, carpet, and any other flammable material.
If a car does not meet the conditions of rules number 4 and 5, it will not be allowed in the
derby competition. If a vehicle does not pass inspection, you may do the required work
on the grounds, so that it will meet the required regulations, AS LONG AS, work is
completed by final inspection time AND work area is CLEANED UP! The work area
WIL BE inspected and MUST be CLEAN before a car will be allowed to enter aheat
lane.
The same driver may enter more than one heat, but must have a different car for each
heat.
Slogans and advertising may be placed on the vehicle, except on front doors and top of
car. Twelve (I2) inch numbers and name shall be placed on both front doors and top. No
obscene writing or pictures, or anything otherwise considered to be "in poor taste" shall
be printed or drawn on the vehicle
Cars must have at least three bars or chains attached vertically to the center of the
windshield open area, to prevent the hood from coming in to the car.
A drivers safety belt must be installed and used. A safety helmet must be worn and
securely fastened while on the track.
A11 doors must be secure by chain, bolt, or welded. If body seams are welded, weld 4
inches, drop 4 inches. Drivers must have added protection. A support must be attached
horizontally on the outside of the drivers door, not to extend more than 6 inches in front
of the drivers door and 12 inches behind the drivers door. Supporl must not exceed 12
inches in width, be securely fastened, and tapered on both ends. No pointed supports or
extended bolts. Cars must have one pipe welded from drivers side to passengers side,
directly behind the drivers seat, with a 6 inch plate welded to both ends so it does not act
as a pear. Dash bars are permitted. Optional passenger bar from dash bar to seat brace is
permitted, can not be welded to frame and at least 12 inches from the passenger door. On
hardtops without doorpost, you must build a cage from the drivers side to the passengers
side, 6 inches in front of the doors and 6 inches behind the front doors, but it can not be
fastened to the frame. Do not fold door tops together and weld.
All trunk decks, and tailgates must be secured by welding, chain or bolt. No
reinforcement of wagon gates. Hoods may be secured with3l4 inch all thread through
frame, with a maximum of 4 bolts or chained. Same thing with trunk deck. Hood must
be open for inspection. Hoods and trunk must have a hole cut in them, in case of fire. At
least a 12 rnch hole is required. Trunks must be empty.
Suspension must not be altered from factory. Trailing arm must remain stock. All air
shocks must have lines cut. Coil and leaf springs must be stock and in original location.
No added spring clamps or other support allowed. Coil springs may be secured by a
loose chain or cable. No all thread to replace shocks.
All vehicles must have a front and rear bumper. No special bumpers, extra weights,
trailer hitches, special lift kits, blocks, shackles, or ro11 bars allowed. No welded
bumpers, however, shock bumpers may be welded to frame but no shimming or spacers
allowed between frame and shock towers. Shock towers must be factorry. No body
bolting through frame.
A11 factory frame holes must remain open. Rusted frames may be repaired but thickness
of metal used must not exceed factory frame thickness. No pinning, seam welding, or
strengthening of frames.
Car tires can not be larger than 10 inch by 16 inch and DOT approved. No truck, paddle,
or tractor tires allowed. Nothing but air is allowed in tires. Valve stem protection is
permitted but shall not extend out past the wheel. Tire in tire permitted.

18. Motor modifications are optional. Motors must be secure in vehicle.
19. Any radiator may be used, but it must be secured in factory location. Radiators and fans
may be removed but not relocated. Radiator overflow tube must be attached and directed
toward the surface of the tract. No added radiator protection, including electric fans
allowed. Placing ice in front of radiator is pennitted if you inform derby ofhcials of your
intent to use ice.
20. Transmission coolers permitted, with NO fans. Non Flammable shield between them and
the driver is required. Lines must be of solid tubing or high pressure hose. No hose
clamps of any kind will be permitted.
2I. Original fuel tank must be removed. Preferably marine type metal fuel tank (no gas
cans) or fuel cell, must be securely mounted by metal or nylon straps, and covered with a
non flammable shield. No rubber straps or wire will be allowed. Maximum of 5 gallons
of gas. Electric fuel pump permitted WITH a kill switch beside the driver seat.
22. All openings in the firewall must be closed. It is recommended, but not required, that the
driver have a fire extinguisher secured within reach.
23. The battery must be bolted down and covered. No more than 2 batteries allowed.
24. Protective eye wear is recommended. Shirt and jeans required. NO cut-offjeans.
25. Drivers are required to attend the meeting before te derby.
26. Absolutely no one will be allowed to compete under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Any person who seems to be overbearing or just a general "pain in the ass" will be
disqualified and forfeit all entry andprrze money won up to that point in time. No heat
money paid until the end of the derby.
27. We will not listen to complaints AFTER the drivers meeting. We may stand there and
listen, but you will not change our minds, so save your breath, we already have your entry
money. Complaints or concerns need to be brought up DURING the drivers meeting.
28, All drivers will be held responsible for the actions of their pit crew. No pit crew
members allowed on the track at ANY time. EXCEPT at the end of each heat, if a car is
disabled, ONE pit crew member can enter the track to hook up the tow rope to the tow
tractor, and ride back to the pits with the tractor driver. A pit crew can get a car and
driver disqualified, if they do not follow rules 25, 26, and27.
29. Any car that has more than one fire in the engine compartment during a heat or feature,
will be disqualified for the rest of the derby.
30. No hitting the driver's door.
31. No blocking with the driver's door
All drivers must complete an aggressive hit on alternating competitors withing 90
seconds. No sandbagging or team driving.
If for the good of competition, the judges see fit to alter the program, they are free to do
so at their discretion.
Decisions of the judges will be final. You must obey flag signals. No arguing, fighting,
or verbal abuse will be tolerated. You made it this far, so behave yourself. HOWEVER,
you are allowed to slam your OWN fist, or knock your OWN head into any of the
concrete barriers, or light poles an unlimited number of times, if you should wish to do
so!! BUT, remember, this is a SPORT, so let's show sportsmanship!
Thank you for coming. Remember, this is a family entertainment event, so enjoy yourself
and if something goes wrong , try to remember that everybody had "bad breaks" in life, so
go home, correct the problem and enjoy the next derby.
Any car still on the grounds by daybreak Tuesday following the derby, may be towed
away and only required after paying a $100 impound fee. You lose all rights and
possession if we do not at least hear from you by 5:00 PM on Tuesday.
