Lyon County Fair Lawnmower Derby July 28, 2012 at the fair grounds starting at 7 pm inspection starts at 2 pm. Entry fee $25 and 1 free pit pass additional pit passes are $15

MOWER RULES
1. Mower must be a factory available lawn mower or garden mower.
(NO HOME MADE FRAMES)
2. No rear engine lawn mowers allowed.
3. Engine must be factory lawn mower engine such as Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, Onan, Etc.
4. All frame modifications and frame reinforcing will be allowed and must be contained inside the hood and visible to the crowd.
5. Transaxles must be factory available mower transaxles but any reinforcing and or welding of spider gears is permitted.
6. Engine bay reinforcing is permitted but must be contained inside the hood and must maintain factory body lines and not visible to the crowd NO STACKS.
7. All mowers must run a factory hood and fenders and have the hood either screwed or welded down to the dash panel around driver’s area (Note if hood is fiberglass or plastic, you can make one out of sheet metal only, but must be the same size as the fiberglass hood).
8. Mowers must have good brakes and forward and reverse gears at the start of the heat.
9. Gas tank must be secured and have a cap on it (Any gas leaking at all and you will be disqualified).
10. Leg guards are mandatory and must be bolted or welded from rear fender to front of foot rest or frame and must not attach to front or back bumper. (IF LEG GUARDS COME OFF YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED).
11. A rear bumper is permitted but is not allowed to extend more than 4-inches out; it must not be wider than the outside of the tires; and it must not attach to the leg guards or front bumper. You may build a back support but it must not be attached to the back or front bumper. No spikes, sharp edges, or any protrusions allowed. (Bumper can be home made with I/H beam or square tubing. Call if questions).
12. Re-gearing and changing of pulleys to increase speed is permitted and encouraged.
13. All drive train modifications are permitted but the modifications must stay belt driven.
14. All mowers must use lawn mower type tires. Tires and cut tires will be permitted with only air in tires. No foam filled or solid tires. (No four wheeler tires). No tire chains or dual wheels will be allowed. You may glue or screw tires to rims. Valve stem protection allowed.
15. Mower decks must be removed.
16. All headlights and any other glass and plastics must be removed before you enter the pits.
17. If you use a battery, it must be securely mounted and covered with a non-flammable material.
18. Front bumpers. No pointed bumpers. Bumpers must be flat with no sharp edges. Not to exceed 3” channel or 3”x3” square tubing. 2” maximum space between mower and front bumper. Front bumper can not exceed frame width. You may build behind the grill to hit with. The front of the mower must be a smooth finish for safety.
19. Roll over and you are out for the heat/feature.
20. For safety, if a mower does roll over, then stop until the mower is up right and the driver is off the track.
21. Please put your number on both sides of the mower or your helmet so we can track the winners. Please make the numbers clearly visible from several feet away.
22. No profanity is allowed on the mowers and/or helmets, or you will not be allowed to participate.
23. All drivers must wear a helmet. No shorts or cut off shirts. Long sleeve shirts are highly recommended.
24. You will have 60 seconds to hit another mower that is still running or you will be disqualified.
25. If you go outside of the arena, you will be disqualified.
26. You will be allowed to restart, but you must not move from your seat to do it or you will be flagged out.
27. No pull start mowers.
28. This is a City sponsored event so there will be NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY. ANYONE CAUGHT WITH ALCOHOL WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE AND WILL GIVE UP ANY WINNINGS.
29. All drivers must wear a helmet.
Remember guys, we want to continue this in the future, so anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to participate and will lose all winnings. One pit member is allowed in the arena after the heat to help get the mower out.
