2015 Demolition Derby Rules
1.Any make of automobile, 1950 and up may be entered as long as the vehicle is not a pickup, truck, or jeep. No four wheel drives, NO Chrysler Imperials, NO ambulances or hearses will be allowed. No trucks, jeeps, convertibles, carryalls, and NO Imperial sub frame cars. SUICIDES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!!!!!!
2.All glass, chrome, name plates, pot metal, plastic, small grill prices, and anything else that might break off or fall off must be removed from car prior to entry on grounds. No wagon decking will be allowed.
3. Concrete, metal plate, wood, foam and pins in the frame and doors will NOT be allowed.
4. The stock gas tanks must be removed. A maximum 10 gallon gas tank must be located in the rear seat compartment and fastened and covered securely.
5. Batteries must be moved to front seat compartment and fastened securely. Batteries and fuel cells must be covered with metal or rubber mat. No more than two automotive or marine batteries allowed.
6. Radiators and fans may be removed but not relocated. You cannot use your heater core for a radiator
7. Transmission coolers may be placed inside the car. Electric fans or ice may be used.
8. Body mounts may be changed to 1 inch bolts or less. A 5” by 5” by ¼” plate may be used inside the car as a washer on the top side of the body mounts. You can suck body to frame. Do not weld body to frame. You may add 2 extra body mounts inside of car only. Rear humps forward. Not in truck area.
9. Car trunk lids may be folded inside the trunk compartment. You cannot weld lid inside of car.
10. Air conditioning condenser cores may be placed in front of the radiator. No other reinforcement such as expanded metal may be used.
11. No tires larger than 16” allowed. A tire mounted inside of a tire is allowable.
12. WHEELS: No bead lock or screwed wheel. 16 inch wheel are allowed. ¾ ton rear ends and must be 6 lug only. Only have 5 lug nuts total per wheel and no floater rear-ends allowed. No solid wheels are allowed.
13. Air cleaner must be left in place.
14. Firewalls must be covered with inter tube if there is a hole. Distributor protectors allowed, must be attached to engine or transmission only, backside must be no wider than 12 inches. If you run a Distributor Protector do not mount your dash bar closer than 4 inches from the back of the distributor protector or tranny protector. Distributor protect can touch firewall. If you do not run a distributor protector, you may run a kicker from frame to dash bar but can only go 6 inches in front of firewall. Kicker can only be no bigger than 1 inch and can only be welded on the top side of frame. You may put a 1inch by 1 inch plate on the top of the frame so you can weld the kicker to. It cannot go down the side of the frame
15. Modifications are allowed but the car must be running on gasoline.
16. Coil spring rear end cars can NOT be changed to a leaf spring rear end. No main leafs may be substituted for sub leafs. All cars may have a total of 9 leafs and can only be 5/16 inches thick. You must also make sure you have a 2 inch stagger. You may reinforce tie rods with a 3/8 by 8 inch rod, no modification of A arms, leaf springs and coil. This means you can swap out A arm for A arm but you cannot reinforce A arm with added metal. A-arms can have (two) 2 inch wide X 6 inch long and ¼ inch thick straps welded to frame per a-arm. If you choose not to straps the a-arms down, you can weld the A-Arm down but only weld two 2 inch wide welds per A-arm. If you choose not to strap or weld and want to bolt A-arms down, you must use( two) 3/8 bolts per A-arm. You can have factory twist in spacers in front and rear coils springs. You can have 4 extra clamps per side on rear of leaf springs and they can only be no bigger than 2inch wide by 4inch long by ¼ inch thick. You can have factory twist in spacers in front and rear coils spring. You can have 2 extra clamps per side on rear of leaf springs.
17. You can stuff upper and lower control arms.
18. A fire extinguisher must be placed in car and securely mounted within easy access to the driver.
19. You may place slogans and/or advertising (no obscenities) anywhere on the car except on the front door. You must put the car number in large print on the front doors with the driver’s name above the number. You must put car number upright on the roof of the car.
20. All cars must have working brakes.
21. No paint or undercoating allowed on frames.
22. #9 wire is allowed. 1 spot per window and it can have 2 complete wraps and can go around frame
23. You can pre-fold body but you cannot weld, this means do not create your own seems and weld.
24. 80s and newer–you are allowed to tilt (You are allowed to cut the frame at the box, pull it down, and re-weld it.),May tilt frames but you may only use 12 inches of weld per side. You may add factory gussets off a newer Vic and install on an older Vic. No homemade gussets will be allowed.
25. Watts-Link Conversions – You may convert a Watts Link Ford to a Standard GM rear end in the following way: Use the trailing arm brackets off an older Ford of the same size and thickness. No positioning of the brackets to strengthen the front down leg of the rear hump. You may cut out the coil spring frame tray from an earlier Ford and weld it in the newer Ford. When welding only one pass ¼”maximum no stronger than stock. No homemade bracket will be allowed
26. 2003 and Newer Fords, Do not change out the aluminum cross member it must remain stock. You can change steering components but they must not weld to the frame. Bolted in with no modifications.
27. Rear-ends: You may brace the back housing but cannot have axle protectors.
28. May chain rear differential to the floor or humps. (3/8 chain max.) or 2 wraps of # 9 wire per side NO PINNING!
29. K-frames must leave one ear up. Y-frames you can close the gap with a 1/4 inch thick plate but must have 1/4 hole for scoping
30. No Frame Pinning and No Fame Lacing
31. All framed holes must be open, no welding shut or washers added!
32. May tie frame rails together at rear end with a chain or 2 raps of #9 wire( no further forward than hump
DERBY RULES
1.One driver door hit is a warning unless it is intentional. 2ND door hit and you are out.
2. If you are pushed into a driver door or are on the brakes and the door contact is a soft bump, you will be allowed to continue.
3. Anytime 2 wheels or more of the car is outside of the boundary the car will have one minute to return. Four wheels out and car is disqualified from heat.
4. Any car with gasoline spilling or leaking will be disqualified from heat.
5. Drivers must remain in their cars until the event director has declared the heat is over, except in the case of a fire.
6. When the calling goes out for each heat and final heat, driver is responsible for being on the track in 2 minutes or he will be disqualified.
7. Helmets with face shields or helmets with goggles must be worn at all times. Seat belts and shoulder harness must be worn at all times.
8. Any door that comes open will be disqualified.
9. Driver must make a hit within 1 minute unless car is stalled out and you will have 2 minutes
10. Car catches on fire two times in one heat will be disqualified from heat.
DERBY RULES**WELDING EXCEPTIONS
1. The only welding on the frame is from the transmission cross member forward and can only be ½ inch wide weld. Top and bottom seams only. Do NOT weld anywhere else on the frame unless stated. Do not X frame. No welding will be allowed inside of cars. If a car is brought in with welds, you must cut all the way through and no slobbers allowed.
2. The hood must be securely bolted with a maximum of eight all threads not to exceed one inch in diameter (must be able to open). The only bolts or all thread allowed to go through the frame are the two located at the radiator core support. All other bolts or all thread must be sheet metal to sheet metal only. Hood washers may not exceed 3/8 inch thick by 5 inch square. Two bolts or all thread (not to exceed 1 inch in diameter) are allowed in the trunk and can go thru frame. Trunk may be chained around rear bumper but must not go around the frame or rear axle. Trunk and doors may be securely welded on the outside only. You can fold top of doors down and weld together. No added material used. You cannot weld on hoods; You can use 25 bolts which can be ¼ inch thick to reattach braces to hood.
3. Holes must be cut in hood, (a min. of (2) 6”by 6” each) A 12” hole must be cut in trunk. Trimming the body for tire clearance allowed (a maximum of eight 3/8 inch bolts per wheel well with a maximum on inch O.D. washer will be allowed. You may cut and weld rear fender wells also.
4. A safety bar may be welded or bolted behind driver’s seat not to exceed 4 inch in diameter. Bar may extend from door post to door post, but preferred to run diagonally from driver’s door to hump in floor board. A four point internal side cage (includes dash bar, side bars, and bar behind seat) will be allowed. Side bars must not extend further than 18 inches behind rear edge of front door. Side bar cannot be bigger than 4 inch. You may also run a kicker from the door bar down to the floor or frame, do not extend any further forward than the front door seam, between the dash bar and seat bar, on both sides. You may connect the rear halo to the frame but cannot go further back than 18 inches from the front door seam. Gas tank protectors can be used but can only be only 24 inch long. It can be 3 inch or less in diameter and must be 1 inch away from untouched sheet metal behind gas tank. You can either go forward or angle and tie back into seat bar.
5. Driver’s door must have reinforcement brace on inside or outside of door. Driver’s door bar on the outside can cover driver’s side door and passenger side door but not to exceed past passenger side door. Foam may be place in drivers door area to protect driver. You may also stick 4x4 wooden post in the driver side door only.
6. DO NOT install special bumpers, extra weights, trailer hitches, special lift kits, or any reinforcement except as set out in rules. No modifications of suspension allowed. Shocks may not be altered but you can have the coil over shocks. No coil over shocks allowed on front end.
7. A bar or chain must be welded in where windshield would be. The windshield protector will not be used for reinforcement.
8. Door seams, trunk lid seams, and wagon gate seams may be welded with 3” by 1/4 “strap or with ½” rebar (in line with the seam). You cannot over lay material anywhere on the car. This means do not weld a 2 inch followed by a 1 or even 2 inch. Smaller material may be used. Only outside seams may be welded. You can also weld the inner door seams with a 3” strap. This is the only thing you can weld inside of the car.
9. A maximum of (2) straps 2” by ¼” can be welded from front bumper to core support. A maximum of (2) straps 2” by ¼ can be welded from rear bumper to trunk lid. All straps on the front and back must be placed vertically.
10. Factory bumper mounts may be welded to the frame without using filler material.
11. Shock bumper mounts may be welded without using filler material and cannot be more than 18 inches long. If you choose to use the Pontiac bumper brackets on the front bumper. They cannot be no longer than 18 inches also. No homemade Pontiac bumper brackets will be allowed
12. Bumper swaps are allowed. Chevy to Ford, Chrysler to Chevy. You may load the front and rear bumpers with (ONE) 2 3/8 pipe only or you can plate the FRONTSIDE of the bumper with a (ONE) 5 inch wide and ½ inch thick plate from bumper end to bumper end. You can have one or the other. No concrete or wood. NO OTHER METAL WILL BE ALLOWED ON OR IN THE BUMPER. IF SO, YOU MUST CUT OFF ALL EXTRA METAL BESIDES THE STRAPS THAT GO FROM THE BUMPER TO THE CORE SUPPORT. You are not allowed to wedge the bumper tips and weld. You may hard nose the front bumper to frame without any added metal. Front bumper may have a 6X6 and ½ inch thick plate welded to the bumper and also to the frame. The only reason why I am allowing this is so you are able to cut off bumper from used car and reuse bumper without being too damaged. I will allow homemade bumpers but can only be built this way: You may have a 4X6 square tubing and can be ¼ inch thick side walls. You cannot fill in square tubing. The length of the bumper cannot go past the outside of the front tires. You may build a pointy but point can only go out 7 inches from the front of the square tubing. You may use 4 inch c-channel that is ¼ inch thick to build pointy but can only be 24 inches wide and tapered to a point in the middle of the bumper. You may use a square tubing in the center to join the enter walls of the pointy. You will not be able to build your bumper any other way. Do not cover this with an existing chrome bumper. Do not fill in the point. The point can not be a made into a spear. The point will need to be 1 inch wide.
13. Bumper skin may be cut and folded down and welded. Cannot relocate cut off bumper scraps. You may relocate rear bumper and lay in truck. You are not allowed to load rear bumper if you install in trunk. You are only allowed cut holes in bumper and put the all tread that is running through your trunk from frame or trunk pan through the bumper and put plate on top of bumper with nut and then your all-treads run up through trunk lid. You are not able to weld or re-position bumper any other way. If so, you will be asked to remove bumper. If bumper is put in truck, you must put the 2’ inch strap from bumper bracket to body and weld. We do not want the bumper brackets to be sticking out and puncture the side of another car.
14. Motor mounts may be welded as long as it does not reinforce frame. You can only go straight down and do not extend out.
15. Pre-run cars may patch a hole in the body of the car, but not replace the whole side of the car. If you patch a hole you must use sheet metal no greater than the sheet metal that makes up the original car body. This patch may overlap the outside of the hole 2”X 4” don’t push your luck
16. No welding of the suspension. You can weld main leaf mounting brackets to prevent them from coming unbolted. Rear-end control arm may be shortened or lengthened but must be rewelded. You can weld coil springs at the base. (So they don’t fly out)
17. The steering column from steering wheel to gearbox may be altered.
18. Welding machines can be allowed in pit area.
19. All cars may have plates welded to the frame and you may have 8 total plates (4X6) and can be ¼ inch thick. Maximum 8 plates per car fresh or used. You must leave an inch between welds on plates. This means you cannot butt plates together. If you have a preran car and you already have 8 plates and you have to add another plate, you must completely cut one plate off to add another plate. The plates can only be welded on the side of the frames. No welding the plates on the top and bottom of the frame. ONLY 8 plates total and I am not going off square inches.
21. You may weld the core support and inner fenders to outer fenders. DO NOT USE ADDED FILLER. WELD ONLY.
22. Sedagons are allowed but you are not allowed to weld the top post to the bottom post. You can only tuck roof inside of car and use the 2 all threads or # 9 wire which is stated.
2015 Co-Pilot Bolt and Chain Class Rules. This class you are allowed to have a passenger in the Car if you choose so. We are looking to have fun with this class and get more people involved.
SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Cars must have at least two bars attached from roof down to dash area to prevent hood from coming in. Can use chain or 2in by 3/16 steel bars welded no more than 4 inches on roof or hood area.
2. Radiator over flow hoses must be pointed at the ground and fastened so they cannot shoot water towards officials or other drivers.
3. Header pipes must be pointing straight up cannot be aimed towards front or side of cars.
4. Note if you have a hole in the fire wall it should be covered.
5. Safety belts required.
6. D.O.T. approved helmets mandatory. Any driver using an open face helmet will be required to wear safety goggles or shield.
7. Safety goggles or shield recommended.
8. Mandatory-you must wear long pants and a shirt (fire suit recommended).
9. 2 fires and you are out unless it’s a fuel fire then it’s just 1 fire and you are out.
10. No alcoholic beverages or drugs allowed in pit area or on the track.
11. NO PIT PERSONS ALLOWED ON THE TRACK.
12. Note management does have the right to disqualify a car/driver at any time. Any person on track or causing trouble and not complying with the rules will be asked to leave (we can have you escorted off or have you arrested and you can be banned from running).
13. Protests must be made no later than 5 minutes after the heat in question. No protests will be taken after feature event. Only Drivers in this class are allowed to protest a car.
PREPARATION OF CARS
No screws allowed on outside of car. NO PLASTIC GAS TANKS (heavy duty plastic racing fuel cells are allowed). No wedging, no sedagons, no jeeps, no trucks (ranchero and el Caminos are considered trucks), no carryalls, no Hearst, no limos, no convertibles, no Suicide Lincolns, no Imperials 73 and older or Imperial subs. All glass, chrome, pot metal, lights, carpet, headliner, back seats, fiber glass and anything else that is flammable must be removed before reaching the exhibit area (do not break glass down in the doors). Trunks must be empty of all debris, spare tire rims, parts, etc. Wagons must have spare tire flap removed or hole cut in it for inspectors to see.
ABSOLUTELY NO welding besides what is stated in these rules. UNLIMITED 9-WIRE do not use this were rules specify how much wire u can use or where I.E. doors and bumpers.
MANDATORY---You must have number on both front doors big enough to read and bright enough color to see. Also must have number on roof with name on roof above front doors. Use your choice of number. No profanity allowed on cars.
ENGINE---Engines swaps are allowed (like Chevy to Ford or Chrysler to Chevy) You may use 2 chains to retain one on each side or use two straps 2 inch by 3/16 thick to hold motor in can only be welded to top of frame no more than 3inch long weld. No engine cradles will be allowed.
RADIATORS---Must remain stock and in the stock location.
TRANSMISSION---Transmissions swaps are allowed. Must have double clamps on all rubber to steel lines. No transmission protectors must be stock.
BATTERY---Must be placed in backseat area on the floor and be covered with something nonflammable like rubber tube, rubber floor mat, etc. Batteries must be secured so they don’t move. 2- 12v batteries max.
SUSPENSION---Must remain stock. No weld on shocks, No trailer hitches, special lifts, blocks, air shackles, air shocks, air lifts must be deflated. Cars must have give or bounce. You may have one 3/8 bolt to bolt arm down or turn in spacers on coils in front only.
REAR ENDS---Rear ends must be 5 lug, gm to gm ford to ford mopar to mopar. Locking of rear ends permitted. You may use any rear end for that make of model as long as it is a car rear-end. Example you can install a 10 or 12 bolt rear in a GM. No rear-end protectors allowed or axle protectors.
DRIVE SHAFTS---Must be OEM stock drive shaft to rear-end. This means if you have a transmission swap, you are allowed to use the original drive shaft and weld on the correct yoke for your transmission but must be stock going to rear end.
TRAILING ARMS & A-ARMS---Must be factory. Absolutely no reinforcing, shortening or lengthening.
STEERING COLUMN/BRAKES/SHIFTER---The steering column must be stock you may put steering knuckle at the steering box. Brakes must be stock and work. All components must be stock. You may put shifter on the floor or attached to the tranny.
HOOD---Hood must remain in factory position. 6 hood bolts allowed only 2 may go through the frame outside of radiator support cannot be directly in front or behind the radiator or welded to core support no more than 3" down from the top of the core support . Bolts must not be any bigger than 1 inch with washers no bigger than 6 inches outside diameter. You must have 2 holes cut in the hood big enough for fire extinguisher. Not directly over carburetor. You may use 20 bolts around header holes no bigger than SAE 3/8 with washers no bigger than 1 inch outside diameter.
TRUNK---You can use (4) 1 inch bolts in trunk and 2 may go through frame with washers no bigger than 6 inches outside diameter. Trunk lids must remain on factory hinges. Tucking or V’ing of trunk lid is allowed, but absolutely no wedging. You may chain or nine wire. NO MORE THAN 50% OF TRUNK MAY BE TUCKED.
BODY---No seam welding, no patching. Pre-denting is okay.
FENDERS---Fenders may be trimmed and 10 bolts may be used per fender. Bolts are to be no bigger than 3/8 with washers no bigger than 1 inch outside diameter.
BODY MOUNT BOLTS---Must be factory. Bushings must be factory. Body bolts can be changed out but can only be the same size as factory.
FRAME---Absolutely no welding on frame. No reinforcing of frame what so ever. You can notch the frame. You may patch or fix the frame with a max of (6) - 4x6x1/4 plates per car. 3 patches per frame rail. There must be visible damage to the frame, I.E. tear or bend. A patch may not be closer than 2 inches to another patch. If you have to patch after your heat and have 6 plates one must be removed before one is added.
DOORS---Driver’s door may be welded solid with a strap no bigger than 3 inches, on the outside only. You must have a safety bar welded or bolted if bolted must have 4 bolts through bar to body. Bar cannot go past door seam by more than 6 inches. All other doors you may chain up to 4 places per door or you may wire 6 places per door. On wagon’s tailgates NO WELDING. You may chain or nine wire in four places. If you have a passenger, you may do the same as the driver’s door for protection for the passenger.
CAGE---You may have a cage with two side bars one on the driver’s door and one on the passenger’s door and two cross bars one behind the seat and one at the dash. The cage cannot extend past the dash area in the front and must be no further back than 5 inches behind front seat or behind the front door seam I.E. 2 door cars. This can be welded in. Absolutely no kickers. You may have a halo bar. None of the cage or halo can connect to the frame. Halo cannot connect to the windshield bars or the roof sign.
BUMPERS---No welding on bumpers. They can be wired, chained or bolted from mount to mount. No welding of shocks or brackets. If you have an aluminum bumper you may change it, to a stock model bumper for that make. Bumper swaps ok, must be gm to gm ford to ford mopar to mopar. Brackets must be stock to the car you are running, no changing the mounting brackets for the make, model and year of car. If you swap bumpers you must use the factory brackets that came on your car. NO WELDING OF SKINs or bumper brackets. Make sure bumpers are well secured we don’t want to pick them up all night. You may use (2) ¾ inch bolt per bumper bracket on the front bumper only one per side.
GAS TANKS---Maximum of 7 gallons of gas. Fuel cells/metal boat tanks must be placed in back seat area and properly secured. NO STOCK TANKS. Fuel cells must be secured so there is no movement (Do not use bungee cords for this). If tank is not secure you will not be running. Fuel cells must have secure caps and be leak proof. All fuel lines must have no leaks. Stock gas tanks must be removed or have holes in them and washed out. NO PLASTIC TANKS (heavy plastic racing fuel cells may be used). You must have a shield of metal or tin between driver and gas tank (this may be mounted with screws).
TIRES---Any tires are allowed. Tire inside of tire is okay. No fluid inside of tires. No valve stem protectors. No wheel weights make sure you remove them even from your spares.
Repairs in the pit the night of the race you may repair your cars to a factory fix. If during inspection after the show the inspectors find it to be excessive you will be ejected and forfeit your winnings.
This is a stock class it will remain a stock class so do not do any more than what is stated in these rules. Do not do anything to make your car illegal after inspection. If this happens you will be disqualified and no return of entry. Officials have the right to re-inspect your cars at any time.
Driver side door and passenger side door---There have been some issues about not having a co-pilot and why can’t we hit the passenger side door. If you have a co-pilot, it will be mandatory that both doors will be painted white for protection and the rest of the body can be painted you color of choice. If you do not have a co-pilot, you must paint the driver’s side door only and do not paint the passenger side door white. This means the passenger side door can be hit if no passenger

9. Car trunk lids may be folded inside the trunk compartment. You cannot weld lid inside of car.
10. Air conditioning condenser cores may be placed in front of the radiator. No other reinforcement such as expanded metal may be used.
11. No tires larger than 16” allowed. A tire mounted inside of a tire is allowable.
12. WHEELS: No bead lock or screwed wheel. 16 inch wheel are allowed. ¾ ton rear ends and must be 6 lug only. Only have 5 lug nuts total per wheel and no floater rear-ends allowed. No solid wheels are allowed.
13. Air cleaner must be left in place.
14. Firewalls must be covered with inter tube if there is a hole. Distributor protectors allowed, must be attached to engine or transmission only, backside must be no wider than 12 inches. If you run a Distributor Protector do not mount your dash bar closer than 4 inches from the back of the distributor protector or tranny protector. Distributor protect can touch firewall. If you do not run a distributor protector, you may run a kicker from frame to dash bar but can only go 6 inches in front of firewall. Kicker can only be no bigger than 1 inch and can only be welded on the top side of frame. You may put a 1inch by 1 inch plate on the top of the frame so you can weld the kicker to. It cannot go down the side of the frame
15. Modifications are allowed but the car must be running on gasoline.
16. Coil spring rear end cars can NOT be changed to a leaf spring rear end. No main leafs may be substituted for sub leafs. All cars may have a total of 9 leafs and can only be 5/16 inches thick. You must also make sure you have a 2 inch stagger. You may reinforce tie rods with a 3/8 by 8 inch rod, no modification of A arms, leaf springs and coil. This means you can swap out A arm for A arm but you cannot reinforce A arm with added metal. A-arms can have (two) 2 inch wide X 6 inch long and ¼ inch thick straps welded to frame per a-arm. If you choose not to straps the a-arms down, you can weld the A-Arm down but only weld two 2 inch wide welds per A-arm. If you choose not to strap or weld and want to bolt A-arms down, you must use( two) 3/8 bolts per A-arm. You can have factory twist in spacers in front and rear coils springs. You can have 4 extra clamps per side on rear of leaf springs and they can only be no bigger than 2inch wide by 4inch long by ¼ inch thick. You can have factory twist in spacers in front and rear coils spring. You can have 2 extra clamps per side on rear of leaf springs.
17. You can stuff upper and lower control arms.
18. A fire extinguisher must be placed in car and securely mounted within easy access to the driver.
19. You may place slogans and/or advertising (no obscenities) anywhere on the car except on the front door. You must put the car number in large print on the front doors with the driver’s name above the number. You must put car number upright on the roof of the car.
20. All cars must have working brakes.
21. No paint or undercoating allowed on frames.
22. #9 wire is allowed. 1 spot per window and it can have 2 complete wraps and can go around frame
23. You can pre-fold body but you cannot weld, this means do not create your own seems and weld.
24. 80s and newer–you are allowed to tilt (You are allowed to cut the frame at the box, pull it down, and re-weld it.),May tilt frames but you may only use 12 inches of weld per side. You may add factory gussets off a newer Vic and install on an older Vic. No homemade gussets will be allowed.
25. Watts-Link Conversions – You may convert a Watts Link Ford to a Standard GM rear end in the following way: Use the trailing arm brackets off an older Ford of the same size and thickness. No positioning of the brackets to strengthen the front down leg of the rear hump. You may cut out the coil spring frame tray from an earlier Ford and weld it in the newer Ford. When welding only one pass ¼”maximum no stronger than stock. No homemade bracket will be allowed
26. 2003 and Newer Fords, Do not change out the aluminum cross member it must remain stock. You can change steering components but they must not weld to the frame. Bolted in with no modifications.
27. Rear-ends: You may brace the back housing but cannot have axle protectors.
28. May chain rear differential to the floor or humps. (3/8 chain max.) or 2 wraps of # 9 wire per side NO PINNING!
29. K-frames must leave one ear up. Y-frames you can close the gap with a 1/4 inch thick plate but must have 1/4 hole for scoping
30. No Frame Pinning and No Fame Lacing
31. All framed holes must be open, no welding shut or washers added!
32. May tie frame rails together at rear end with a chain or 2 raps of #9 wire( no further forward than hump
DERBY RULES
1.One driver door hit is a warning unless it is intentional. 2ND door hit and you are out.
2. If you are pushed into a driver door or are on the brakes and the door contact is a soft bump, you will be allowed to continue.
3. Anytime 2 wheels or more of the car is outside of the boundary the car will have one minute to return. Four wheels out and car is disqualified from heat.
4. Any car with gasoline spilling or leaking will be disqualified from heat.
5. Drivers must remain in their cars until the event director has declared the heat is over, except in the case of a fire.
6. When the calling goes out for each heat and final heat, driver is responsible for being on the track in 2 minutes or he will be disqualified.
7. Helmets with face shields or helmets with goggles must be worn at all times. Seat belts and shoulder harness must be worn at all times.
8. Any door that comes open will be disqualified.
9. Driver must make a hit within 1 minute unless car is stalled out and you will have 2 minutes
10. Car catches on fire two times in one heat will be disqualified from heat.
DERBY RULES**WELDING EXCEPTIONS
1. The only welding on the frame is from the transmission cross member forward and can only be ½ inch wide weld. Top and bottom seams only. Do NOT weld anywhere else on the frame unless stated. Do not X frame. No welding will be allowed inside of cars. If a car is brought in with welds, you must cut all the way through and no slobbers allowed.
2. The hood must be securely bolted with a maximum of eight all threads not to exceed one inch in diameter (must be able to open). The only bolts or all thread allowed to go through the frame are the two located at the radiator core support. All other bolts or all thread must be sheet metal to sheet metal only. Hood washers may not exceed 3/8 inch thick by 5 inch square. Two bolts or all thread (not to exceed 1 inch in diameter) are allowed in the trunk and can go thru frame. Trunk may be chained around rear bumper but must not go around the frame or rear axle. Trunk and doors may be securely welded on the outside only. You can fold top of doors down and weld together. No added material used. You cannot weld on hoods; You can use 25 bolts which can be ¼ inch thick to reattach braces to hood.
3. Holes must be cut in hood, (a min. of (2) 6”by 6” each) A 12” hole must be cut in trunk. Trimming the body for tire clearance allowed (a maximum of eight 3/8 inch bolts per wheel well with a maximum on inch O.D. washer will be allowed. You may cut and weld rear fender wells also.
4. A safety bar may be welded or bolted behind driver’s seat not to exceed 4 inch in diameter. Bar may extend from door post to door post, but preferred to run diagonally from driver’s door to hump in floor board. A four point internal side cage (includes dash bar, side bars, and bar behind seat) will be allowed. Side bars must not extend further than 18 inches behind rear edge of front door. Side bar cannot be bigger than 4 inch. You may also run a kicker from the door bar down to the floor or frame, do not extend any further forward than the front door seam, between the dash bar and seat bar, on both sides. You may connect the rear halo to the frame but cannot go further back than 18 inches from the front door seam. Gas tank protectors can be used but can only be only 24 inch long. It can be 3 inch or less in diameter and must be 1 inch away from untouched sheet metal behind gas tank. You can either go forward or angle and tie back into seat bar.
5. Driver’s door must have reinforcement brace on inside or outside of door. Driver’s door bar on the outside can cover driver’s side door and passenger side door but not to exceed past passenger side door. Foam may be place in drivers door area to protect driver. You may also stick 4x4 wooden post in the driver side door only.
6. DO NOT install special bumpers, extra weights, trailer hitches, special lift kits, or any reinforcement except as set out in rules. No modifications of suspension allowed. Shocks may not be altered but you can have the coil over shocks. No coil over shocks allowed on front end.
7. A bar or chain must be welded in where windshield would be. The windshield protector will not be used for reinforcement.
8. Door seams, trunk lid seams, and wagon gate seams may be welded with 3” by 1/4 “strap or with ½” rebar (in line with the seam). You cannot over lay material anywhere on the car. This means do not weld a 2 inch followed by a 1 or even 2 inch. Smaller material may be used. Only outside seams may be welded. You can also weld the inner door seams with a 3” strap. This is the only thing you can weld inside of the car.
9. A maximum of (2) straps 2” by ¼” can be welded from front bumper to core support. A maximum of (2) straps 2” by ¼ can be welded from rear bumper to trunk lid. All straps on the front and back must be placed vertically.
10. Factory bumper mounts may be welded to the frame without using filler material.
11. Shock bumper mounts may be welded without using filler material and cannot be more than 18 inches long. If you choose to use the Pontiac bumper brackets on the front bumper. They cannot be no longer than 18 inches also. No homemade Pontiac bumper brackets will be allowed
12. Bumper swaps are allowed. Chevy to Ford, Chrysler to Chevy. You may load the front and rear bumpers with (ONE) 2 3/8 pipe only or you can plate the FRONTSIDE of the bumper with a (ONE) 5 inch wide and ½ inch thick plate from bumper end to bumper end. You can have one or the other. No concrete or wood. NO OTHER METAL WILL BE ALLOWED ON OR IN THE BUMPER. IF SO, YOU MUST CUT OFF ALL EXTRA METAL BESIDES THE STRAPS THAT GO FROM THE BUMPER TO THE CORE SUPPORT. You are not allowed to wedge the bumper tips and weld. You may hard nose the front bumper to frame without any added metal. Front bumper may have a 6X6 and ½ inch thick plate welded to the bumper and also to the frame. The only reason why I am allowing this is so you are able to cut off bumper from used car and reuse bumper without being too damaged. I will allow homemade bumpers but can only be built this way: You may have a 4X6 square tubing and can be ¼ inch thick side walls. You cannot fill in square tubing. The length of the bumper cannot go past the outside of the front tires. You may build a pointy but point can only go out 7 inches from the front of the square tubing. You may use 4 inch c-channel that is ¼ inch thick to build pointy but can only be 24 inches wide and tapered to a point in the middle of the bumper. You may use a square tubing in the center to join the enter walls of the pointy. You will not be able to build your bumper any other way. Do not cover this with an existing chrome bumper. Do not fill in the point. The point can not be a made into a spear. The point will need to be 1 inch wide.
13. Bumper skin may be cut and folded down and welded. Cannot relocate cut off bumper scraps. You may relocate rear bumper and lay in truck. You are not allowed to load rear bumper if you install in trunk. You are only allowed cut holes in bumper and put the all tread that is running through your trunk from frame or trunk pan through the bumper and put plate on top of bumper with nut and then your all-treads run up through trunk lid. You are not able to weld or re-position bumper any other way. If so, you will be asked to remove bumper. If bumper is put in truck, you must put the 2’ inch strap from bumper bracket to body and weld. We do not want the bumper brackets to be sticking out and puncture the side of another car.
14. Motor mounts may be welded as long as it does not reinforce frame. You can only go straight down and do not extend out.
15. Pre-run cars may patch a hole in the body of the car, but not replace the whole side of the car. If you patch a hole you must use sheet metal no greater than the sheet metal that makes up the original car body. This patch may overlap the outside of the hole 2”X 4” don’t push your luck
16. No welding of the suspension. You can weld main leaf mounting brackets to prevent them from coming unbolted. Rear-end control arm may be shortened or lengthened but must be rewelded. You can weld coil springs at the base. (So they don’t fly out)
17. The steering column from steering wheel to gearbox may be altered.
18. Welding machines can be allowed in pit area.
19. All cars may have plates welded to the frame and you may have 8 total plates (4X6) and can be ¼ inch thick. Maximum 8 plates per car fresh or used. You must leave an inch between welds on plates. This means you cannot butt plates together. If you have a preran car and you already have 8 plates and you have to add another plate, you must completely cut one plate off to add another plate. The plates can only be welded on the side of the frames. No welding the plates on the top and bottom of the frame. ONLY 8 plates total and I am not going off square inches.
21. You may weld the core support and inner fenders to outer fenders. DO NOT USE ADDED FILLER. WELD ONLY.
22. Sedagons are allowed but you are not allowed to weld the top post to the bottom post. You can only tuck roof inside of car and use the 2 all threads or # 9 wire which is stated.
2015 Co-Pilot Bolt and Chain Class Rules. This class you are allowed to have a passenger in the Car if you choose so. We are looking to have fun with this class and get more people involved.
SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Cars must have at least two bars attached from roof down to dash area to prevent hood from coming in. Can use chain or 2in by 3/16 steel bars welded no more than 4 inches on roof or hood area.
2. Radiator over flow hoses must be pointed at the ground and fastened so they cannot shoot water towards officials or other drivers.
3. Header pipes must be pointing straight up cannot be aimed towards front or side of cars.
4. Note if you have a hole in the fire wall it should be covered.
5. Safety belts required.
6. D.O.T. approved helmets mandatory. Any driver using an open face helmet will be required to wear safety goggles or shield.
7. Safety goggles or shield recommended.
8. Mandatory-you must wear long pants and a shirt (fire suit recommended).
9. 2 fires and you are out unless it’s a fuel fire then it’s just 1 fire and you are out.
10. No alcoholic beverages or drugs allowed in pit area or on the track.
11. NO PIT PERSONS ALLOWED ON THE TRACK.
12. Note management does have the right to disqualify a car/driver at any time. Any person on track or causing trouble and not complying with the rules will be asked to leave (we can have you escorted off or have you arrested and you can be banned from running).
13. Protests must be made no later than 5 minutes after the heat in question. No protests will be taken after feature event. Only Drivers in this class are allowed to protest a car.
PREPARATION OF CARS
No screws allowed on outside of car. NO PLASTIC GAS TANKS (heavy duty plastic racing fuel cells are allowed). No wedging, no sedagons, no jeeps, no trucks (ranchero and el Caminos are considered trucks), no carryalls, no Hearst, no limos, no convertibles, no Suicide Lincolns, no Imperials 73 and older or Imperial subs. All glass, chrome, pot metal, lights, carpet, headliner, back seats, fiber glass and anything else that is flammable must be removed before reaching the exhibit area (do not break glass down in the doors). Trunks must be empty of all debris, spare tire rims, parts, etc. Wagons must have spare tire flap removed or hole cut in it for inspectors to see.
ABSOLUTELY NO welding besides what is stated in these rules. UNLIMITED 9-WIRE do not use this were rules specify how much wire u can use or where I.E. doors and bumpers.
MANDATORY---You must have number on both front doors big enough to read and bright enough color to see. Also must have number on roof with name on roof above front doors. Use your choice of number. No profanity allowed on cars.
ENGINE---Engines swaps are allowed (like Chevy to Ford or Chrysler to Chevy) You may use 2 chains to retain one on each side or use two straps 2 inch by 3/16 thick to hold motor in can only be welded to top of frame no more than 3inch long weld. No engine cradles will be allowed.
RADIATORS---Must remain stock and in the stock location.
TRANSMISSION---Transmissions swaps are allowed. Must have double clamps on all rubber to steel lines. No transmission protectors must be stock.
BATTERY---Must be placed in backseat area on the floor and be covered with something nonflammable like rubber tube, rubber floor mat, etc. Batteries must be secured so they don’t move. 2- 12v batteries max.
SUSPENSION---Must remain stock. No weld on shocks, No trailer hitches, special lifts, blocks, air shackles, air shocks, air lifts must be deflated. Cars must have give or bounce. You may have one 3/8 bolt to bolt arm down or turn in spacers on coils in front only.
REAR ENDS---Rear ends must be 5 lug, gm to gm ford to ford mopar to mopar. Locking of rear ends permitted. You may use any rear end for that make of model as long as it is a car rear-end. Example you can install a 10 or 12 bolt rear in a GM. No rear-end protectors allowed or axle protectors.
DRIVE SHAFTS---Must be OEM stock drive shaft to rear-end. This means if you have a transmission swap, you are allowed to use the original drive shaft and weld on the correct yoke for your transmission but must be stock going to rear end.
TRAILING ARMS & A-ARMS---Must be factory. Absolutely no reinforcing, shortening or lengthening.
STEERING COLUMN/BRAKES/SHIFTER---The steering column must be stock you may put steering knuckle at the steering box. Brakes must be stock and work. All components must be stock. You may put shifter on the floor or attached to the tranny.
HOOD---Hood must remain in factory position. 6 hood bolts allowed only 2 may go through the frame outside of radiator support cannot be directly in front or behind the radiator or welded to core support no more than 3" down from the top of the core support . Bolts must not be any bigger than 1 inch with washers no bigger than 6 inches outside diameter. You must have 2 holes cut in the hood big enough for fire extinguisher. Not directly over carburetor. You may use 20 bolts around header holes no bigger than SAE 3/8 with washers no bigger than 1 inch outside diameter.
TRUNK---You can use (4) 1 inch bolts in trunk and 2 may go through frame with washers no bigger than 6 inches outside diameter. Trunk lids must remain on factory hinges. Tucking or V’ing of trunk lid is allowed, but absolutely no wedging. You may chain or nine wire. NO MORE THAN 50% OF TRUNK MAY BE TUCKED.
BODY---No seam welding, no patching. Pre-denting is okay.
FENDERS---Fenders may be trimmed and 10 bolts may be used per fender. Bolts are to be no bigger than 3/8 with washers no bigger than 1 inch outside diameter.
BODY MOUNT BOLTS---Must be factory. Bushings must be factory. Body bolts can be changed out but can only be the same size as factory.
FRAME---Absolutely no welding on frame. No reinforcing of frame what so ever. You can notch the frame. You may patch or fix the frame with a max of (6) - 4x6x1/4 plates per car. 3 patches per frame rail. There must be visible damage to the frame, I.E. tear or bend. A patch may not be closer than 2 inches to another patch. If you have to patch after your heat and have 6 plates one must be removed before one is added.
DOORS---Driver’s door may be welded solid with a strap no bigger than 3 inches, on the outside only. You must have a safety bar welded or bolted if bolted must have 4 bolts through bar to body. Bar cannot go past door seam by more than 6 inches. All other doors you may chain up to 4 places per door or you may wire 6 places per door. On wagon’s tailgates NO WELDING. You may chain or nine wire in four places. If you have a passenger, you may do the same as the driver’s door for protection for the passenger.
CAGE---You may have a cage with two side bars one on the driver’s door and one on the passenger’s door and two cross bars one behind the seat and one at the dash. The cage cannot extend past the dash area in the front and must be no further back than 5 inches behind front seat or behind the front door seam I.E. 2 door cars. This can be welded in. Absolutely no kickers. You may have a halo bar. None of the cage or halo can connect to the frame. Halo cannot connect to the windshield bars or the roof sign.
BUMPERS---No welding on bumpers. They can be wired, chained or bolted from mount to mount. No welding of shocks or brackets. If you have an aluminum bumper you may change it, to a stock model bumper for that make. Bumper swaps ok, must be gm to gm ford to ford mopar to mopar. Brackets must be stock to the car you are running, no changing the mounting brackets for the make, model and year of car. If you swap bumpers you must use the factory brackets that came on your car. NO WELDING OF SKINs or bumper brackets. Make sure bumpers are well secured we don’t want to pick them up all night. You may use (2) ¾ inch bolt per bumper bracket on the front bumper only one per side.
GAS TANKS---Maximum of 7 gallons of gas. Fuel cells/metal boat tanks must be placed in back seat area and properly secured. NO STOCK TANKS. Fuel cells must be secured so there is no movement (Do not use bungee cords for this). If tank is not secure you will not be running. Fuel cells must have secure caps and be leak proof. All fuel lines must have no leaks. Stock gas tanks must be removed or have holes in them and washed out. NO PLASTIC TANKS (heavy plastic racing fuel cells may be used). You must have a shield of metal or tin between driver and gas tank (this may be mounted with screws).
TIRES---Any tires are allowed. Tire inside of tire is okay. No fluid inside of tires. No valve stem protectors. No wheel weights make sure you remove them even from your spares.
Repairs in the pit the night of the race you may repair your cars to a factory fix. If during inspection after the show the inspectors find it to be excessive you will be ejected and forfeit your winnings.
This is a stock class it will remain a stock class so do not do any more than what is stated in these rules. Do not do anything to make your car illegal after inspection. If this happens you will be disqualified and no return of entry. Officials have the right to re-inspect your cars at any time.
Driver side door and passenger side door---There have been some issues about not having a co-pilot and why can’t we hit the passenger side door. If you have a co-pilot, it will be mandatory that both doors will be painted white for protection and the rest of the body can be painted you color of choice. If you do not have a co-pilot, you must paint the driver’s side door only and do not paint the passenger side door white. This means the passenger side door can be hit if no passenger
