The problem i see with derbys these days are if your going to have rules FOLLOW THEM ALL!! not just the ones you think make the cars stronger. I see the biggest problem with the rules too to many grey areas.

Congrats to all the winners! Congrats to Cody on his 3rd place. Congrats to Jake on his 3rd place. It was a very hard hitting derby. I think this was the worst ever derby I have witness in a long time on driver door hits and only 1 warning was called I'm sorry but you have 4 or 5 officials and you cant tell me that only one official saw a dd hit get real. IMO someone is going to get seriously hurt if you don't step up to the plate and make these calls.

i just got back from canton, you may say what you will about canton. 2 guys mouthed off to the official, they were escorted from the fairgrounds, while the cops watched, yes the staff took care of it. a guy gave a hard drivers door hit, no warning they broke his stick. twice as many cars, no fights, no yelling about getting cheated. full grand stands, incredably nice people with manors every where, hard hits, hard cars, on the track it was every man for himself, in the pits they helped each other get back out. lot of beer consumed, the place wasnt trashed, best derby ive seen this year. oh i forgot the women got 5 stars jim

here's how i look at it...
first off, the car counts are low almost everywhere and the officials aren't looking to turn down any cars. without cars the fans don't show and without fans there is no derby. second...a lot of the cars are built to other shows rules and are going to have to cut and change stuff to get in. if it's not changed before the derby your going to you should be expected to change it there without any bitching. the rules usually say, "if it's not in the rules, then don't do it, or call first". like everyone says...it's better to be over built than under built. some stuff is going to get caught and some stuff won't. sometimes it will be caught on the second time around. it's hot outside and not the exact same official checks the same cars or the inspection lines would take all night. most of the time they give you the option of cutting it off or fixing it and if you don't then you can't run, period. that's a decision the driver has to make so you can't set there and complain about the officials for everything. with fuel prices, steel and cars being so expensive, nobody is wanting to take a fresh car and junk it in a heat or even one derby so i can definitely see where everyone is coming from on trying to build a hard car...just make sure you bring some torches
now as far as the team driving goes...everyone does it. nobody is going to want to go out and take their teammate out or best friend out of the heat. they still hit eachother but nobody tries to junk them until it comes down to the money...anyone and everyone can vouch for this. it's common sense. yeah it sucks...but it's derbying
now for the driver door hits...they specifically said in the drivers meeting that if you pull a drivers door to block and get full tracked, it's on you. i see nothing wrong with that at all. if you have big enough b@lls to put your drivers door in front of a bumper coming straight at you...then so be it! i didn't see the whole ottawa derby so i didn't get to see most of the drivers door hits. i'm talking about just all derby's in general. granted there are hits that are intentional and they said if it wasn't too obvious you get a warning and then after that your stick gets broke
i think the officials did a pretty good job and everything went well in ottawa. it was a good show and some really hard hitting. a lot better than past years i think...just my opinion though. i'll definitely be back to watch in the fall
