REMEMBER WHEN WE FIRST GOT INTO THI? IT WAS FUN..... AND SOMEWHERE THROUGH THE YEARS IT BECAME A TASK.. AN UNPLEASANT EXPECTATION THAT EVERY YEAR THE BUILDS WOULD BE MORE INVOLVED,MORE EXPENSIVE AND MORE TIME CONSUMING...I DONT CARE ABOUT SWAPPING ENGINES FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER OF CARS TO CARS IN ITS DIVISIONS- CHEVY IN OLDS, BUICK IN PONTIAC, CADDY INTO CHEVY.WHATEVER... BUT NO BUMPER SWAPS .... ITS GOING TO GET OUT OF HAND WITH PEOPLE ALTERING BRACKETS- CUTTING AND MODIFYING SO YOU CANT TELL WHATS SUPPOSED TO BE THERE AND WHATS BEEN ADDED TO MAKE SOMETHING WORK AND THEN IT BECOMES NON-STOCK ANYMORE... IF YOU WANT TO RUN A CAR WITH A GOOD BUMPER, GO AND BUY ONE. IF YOU CANT FIND ONE, YOU ARENT LOOKING.... I HAVE HAD JUST AS MUCH FUN WRECKING JUNK FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CARS AGAINST MY WIFE AND KIDS AT THE JUNKYARD AS I DO IN A WIRE CLASS CAR....RUN THEM WITH THE BUMPERS THEY COME WITH... EVEN PUTTING ON AN ALL STEEL VERSION OF AN EARLIER BUMPER WONT HELP MUCH FOR METRIC CARS, IN FACT IT WILL JUST BELLY OUT FASTER OR BEND IN FRONT OF THE A-ARMS FASTER. I AM A BELIEVER IN THE ALUMINUM BACKED BUMPERS IF TREAYED CORRECTLY AND WIRED THE "RIGHT" WAY... THEY ABSORB ALOT OF IMPACT AND DONT TRANSMIT IT ALL BACK TO THE FRAME.... JASON SHOWED ME HIS FRAME ON HIS CAR BEFORE WINFIELD AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH HIS THOUIGHT PROCESS ON SACRIFICING ONE THING TO KEEP ANOTHER THING GOING.... TRUST ME, THE MORE OF THESE STOCK BUILDS YOU DO, YOUR THINKING WILL CHANGE AS WELL......KEEP IT LIKE IT IS.......ITS FINE......

X2, I was just thinking of ideas and everyone commented back and there opinion and awnsered some of my questions and I see everyones points also, I'm ok with the rules staying, I still have a car ready to go and now I get to build another, I would build a Chrysler but someone decided to buy the one I was going to run this year, just 2days late, not pointing any fingers lol,(Aaron) but at least someone got it for the same reason I had for it, I have an eye out for another.

According to how Brandon put it to me the other night, bumpers are to be the make and model of the carbut the year can be different so if Gary ran a 68 olds delta 88 he could in fact have a 74 olds delta 88 bumper on the front and rear. The year does not mater as long as the make and model are the same. Correct Brandon? I told him I was going to bring an 83 caprice( which is for sale now) which had aluminum bumpers and he told me I could put on a 74-76 caprice bumper. I could have misheard but I had him repeat it several times. If not find better cars to run. I'm going after something goofy and blizzare next year. the reason I told you that is because it was an aluminum bumper it must be same make and model of car but you may change it if it was an aluminum bumper

Jon, the idea worked perfect; frames almost on the ground under the firewall and I still have steering (with a stock rag joint).
To you guys that want to change bumpers and stuff, would you want a weld heat (maybe between consi's and finals) thrown in next yr? I don't know if Brandon and crew would want to try to add something like that or not but it might be worth asking. The worst he could say is no...

A WELD HEAT OF 1 RUN AND DONE WOULD WORK, THAT WAY GUYS COULD FINISH OFF A PRERAN OR BREAK IN THEIR NEW CAR..... I REALLY LIKE THE CURRENT RULES, ONLY CHANGE I SEE THAT WOULD BE BENEFICIAL WOULD BE TO ALLOW SAME MANUFACTURER OF ENGINES IN SAME MANUFACTURERS OF CARS. WE ALL KNOW WHERE THERE ARE A FEW CARS WE WOULD BUY IF WE COULD SWAP IN A DIFFERENT ENGINE TO REPLACE THE BAD OR MISSING ONE THEN BE ABLE TO RUN IT....

WE ALL KNOW WHERE THERE ARE A FEW CARS WE WOULD BUY IF WE COULD SWAP IN A DIFFERENT ENGINE TO REPLACE THE BAD OR MISSING ONE THEN BE ABLE TO RUN IT.... I'd leave the motor swaps out of it. Certain motors overheat and some dont. Others come stock with horsepower and others don't. That's the beauty of it. I'd think motor swaps would only be benificial to GM's if I'm not mistaken. A chrysler 318/360 is no different from a dodge or plymouth 318/360. I'm not sure about fords 305/351 as to lincoln or mecury because I avoid them like the plague. Part of my point is if I have a chrysler 400 it tends to get warm so with a swap I could put in a small block. That doesn't benifit a gm driver running against me who hopes my car may overheat. What if I put a 300+ hp 413 motor in a cordoba? Still no good. Like I said keep the rules as they set. If you don't like a motor or bumper or frame of a car then don't run it, simple as that. I didn't get to run so I know my input is worthless at this point but I will next year and I'm going to run "what I brought".

^^^^ LIKE^^^^ I think motor swaps will just create another gray area.... So I can throw my "stock" SBC that I just so happen to have "laying around" in my Buick intead of the 455 motor that's in it??? I think this is just opening the door for modified motors... I'm like Gage, if you want to run an SBC, build a Chevy...

I would like to see a full weld heat with imps, lincolns, 03 up modified fords, etc also but I dont think the fair board pony up enough money to make it worth anyones time. Sorry kevin. You will have to be quicker on the trigger next time. I've been watching that car as long as your brother and you have been. I have been looking at another shocker for a while now. I guess it is time to see if it can be bought.

I LEARNED A LONG TIME AGO, THAT WHATEVER CAR YOU THINK IS NOT FOR SALE IS AND CAN BE BOUGHT-USUALLY BY ANOTHER DERBIER.. WE HAVE BOUGHT TONS OF CARS JUST BY ASKING WHAT OTHERS HAVE OFFERED AND THEN UPPING THE OFFER.. WHATEVER YOU LEAVE BEHIND, SOMEONE ELSE WILL BUY.. AND.... PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF.. TOOK ME 8 YEARS OF ASKING A GROCERY STORE WORKER ABOUT HER 74 OLDS WAGON, BUT THEY FINALLY GAVE IT TO ME WHEN IT WAS TIME TO LET IT GO..EVEN BUYING METRIC CARS I DONT HAVE AN IMMEDIATE NEED FOR CAN BE USEFUL FOR TRADING LATER ON, OR FOR DRIVETRAIN DONORS......

I guess I don't see the problem finding old cars. I can get 7 old iron cars for 2400 now but I have no way of hauling. Are they great cars? No, but they will do in a bolt and chain. I like my odds with some of them. Not that I'm going too but he has a 53 plymouth cranbrook that runs! How cool would that be for a junker? Hopefully I can get them all so I can sell a few cheap and other will have cars to run. I'm keeping the 76 monaco though:)

Aaron you never know. They have been having extra heats for years; trucks, compacts, demo football, etc... All paid well enough.

I would like to do mini truck figure 8 like s10's, toyota, ford rangers, there are a crap loads of them everywhere and for dirt cheap, also I would like to see the compacts come back maybe as a in between heats thing,
